be a part of a story that is inspired by the past and will be secured for future generations

In a small Burgundian village our friend and business partner John Pierre a lumberjack in a previous life and custodian of the family sawmill talks about the Tronçais and Limousin forests that were planted by Jean-Baptiste Colbert, minister of Louis XIV, in the late 1600s so that the French would have sufficient material for building ships as they sought maritime dominance.

John Pierre’s family is well respected within the hardwood timber community. The custodians of the local sawmill for over seventy years, French Oak timber is a key part of a life well lived in Burgundy. John Pierre and his family live meters away from the mill and their granddaughter Laura manages the business today, the mill is still their way of life.

When John Pierre started his mill old-growth French Oak was carefully selected by the woodsmen, the timber was milled by hand, left to season air-dried for many years before being used to build. All of our French Oak is still air dried and then kilned dried it is then stored in a humidity-controlled warehouse until sold. Our wood is seasoned to perfection.

Salvage Europe has an exclusive partnership with John Pierre and his family we have ongoing supplies of old Growth, single origin, PEFC certified, kiln dried French Oak Hardwood which we export to Australia to manufacture into our stunning French Oak hardwood products such as flooring,, overlay, cladding and stair materials.
